Well, I did my bit and protested with the same old 30 people in Laramie, against California's Prop. 8. For an hour we managed not to get flipped off or yelled at. I consider that a success.

On another positive note - finding a family friend there supporting her 13 year old daughter. The daughter greeted me very happily and wanted to talk about choir and music. Someone said, isn't it nice to have your mother supporting you, and the girl replied, "Yes, but that's what mother's do."

Huh. Fascinating.

Children's Opera done

Finally finished the children's opera - I took too long writing the last song because my brain told me it was my last time to write something decent for this show. Must.....shut off.......brain. When Chuckwagon sings lovingly of his favorite meal, Lizzard Gizzards, and says they are better than some "stinky fish," I quoted Schubert's Trout. Ha ha. Oy.

Director sent an incredibly sweet thank you. I'm looking forward to hearing it outside of head, sung by real human voices, and not on a crappy youtube video, either.

On my walk at the lakes today, I saw over 100 antelope running - about 98 does and 2 bucks on amber waves of grass and under purple clouds, in late day sun. I greeted one great horned owl who let me and Jonas get close enough to see the yellow of her eyes and the swirling of her head. I heard geese honking and coyotes howling,
scared 3 monstrously large hares—now turned white—out of the brush, much to the delight of the dogs, and was surprised by 8 snow geese, taking off from the frozen water.

On the subject of Dog Poo:

1. In the high prairie and mountains, the stuff degrades quickly. I know, I have a test site in my side yard.
2. In a park where kids or I might be playing or walking in the grass, I always pick up the poo - even though it will take a zillion years to degrade in a bag in the landfill.
